Cold Sores
Cold sores, those nasty blisters that pop up on our mouth overnight, but seems like it takes forever to get rid of them. They can also get inside your mouth and on your nose. These pesky little critters are caused from a viral infection and they can actually be quite painful. The following conditions are linked to the virus that ends up causing the sore. Pills: Famciclovir (Famvir) - Start taking this at the first sign of the sore and it can reduce the herpes infection down by two days. Valacyclovir (Valtrex) - Start at the first sign of symptoms, taking 2 gm of this medicine twice a day for one day, lessened the herpes healing time by one day.
Suppression Therapy - This will help out people that have six or more outbreaks within in a year. By taking Acyclovir 400 mg twice daily reduces the number of times you will have recurrences. There are other medication alternatives as well, Famciclovir 250 mg twice a day or Valacyclovir 500 mg once a day are also for people that have numerous outbreaks within in a year.
Next time you feel a blister about to rear it's ugly head, try one of these treatments and see if it doesn't help get rid of it before it become a nuisance. Nobody likes the effects of a cold sore, how it feels or looks. These treatments can help lessen your pain and reduce the length of your embarrassment. Just remember to start the medicine at the first onset of the outbreak, it will help reduce the time of the outbreak or stop it from becoming visible. Any of these ointments or creams are recommended to help you get rid of a cold sore.

Man cold sores are the worst. I hate them. One thing I do to dry the cold sore out is to dab a very small amount of methylated spirits on it. I do this about 2 times a day. Not exactly easy to do it at work. Imagine whipping out the bottle of metho at lunch. My colleagues may ask me if I have a drinking problem!!!, but I find it does speed up the process.
