Sports Physiotherapy

When you play sport, it is important for your body to be comfortable with a wider range of motion than is typical for most people. A body that is able to bend and stretch with ease is less prone to serious sports-related injuries. Many players are turning to sports physiotherapy as a way to condition their bodies for peak performance and injury protection. The holistic approach that a sports physio takes in prescribing your care ensures that no area of your body will be ignored or left vulnerable to an avoidable injury.

What Sports Physiotherapy Can Do for You?

In collaboration with other specialists (including massage therapists, podiatrists and fitness trainers), sports physiotherapy will improve your range of motion, flexibility and increase your ability to avoid injuries. Whether through training on how to wrap your body properly before playing a big game or in-depth therapeutic exercises on a regular basis, you will benefit greatly from submitting yourself to the instruction and care of a licensed practitioner.

Sports physiotherapy can help you become more durable while on the playing field. By using a holistic approach that includes care from other practitioners that are specialists in their field, you will come away with a body that is more flexible from head to toe than it has ever been.

What Sports Physiotherapy Cannot Do for You?

Specialized care can never replace the need for surgery in the case of a serious injury. Broken or fractured bones or torn ligaments need special attention from medical doctors. A sports physiotherapist can help to prevent serious injury before it occurs or they can come alongside your doctor to speed your recovery through a holistic post-surgery recovery plan but they cannot replace a serious need for surgical attention.

Sports Physiotherapy Tips:

  1. Make sure to choose a sports physio who has a good reputation.

  2. Make sure your practitioner is co-operating with other specialists in order to provide you with the most comprehensive holistic treatment available.

  3. Ask your coach to recommend a good physio who is familiar with your sport.

  4. Do not wait for an injury to see a practitioner; sports physiotherapy can be preventative as well as restorative.

  5. If possible, seek a practitioner who will work with you in your sports environment as opposed to an office setting (this is not always possible however).
